Greg Ash Glass Artist

Greg was born and educated in Perth, Western Australia. His teaching qualifications from Edith Cowan University included an emphasis in art teaching. He studied fabrics and textiles, printmaking and silk-screening before discovering glass.

Greg learnt to do leadlight glass at TAFE in the late 1980′s and soon had finished leadlighting his Mt Lawley House.

After reading glass books he attended a course in 2002 with Marc Grunseit, one of Australia’s leading innovative glass artists. This led to other courses in fusing and slumping studying with Marc Leib. In 2005, he studied with Simon Butler, David Murray and Emma Camden in kiln casting at the Jam Factory in Adelaide. In 2006, Greg did workshops with Katherine Newell in constructing pictures using powders and bead making with Robin Foster and Pauline Delaney. In 2007, he studied casting with Shar Moorman in Buderim, Queensland and participated in a bevelling workshop with Kent Lauer. In 2008, Greg participated and trained with Silvia Levenson in casting and also with Steven Kliens strip work.

Greg is now one of the state representatives for Ausglass.

He has a range of Jewellery, mostly dichroic glass, pendants, drop and stud earrings, bracelets and rings. Most of these are encased with silver. Works also include architectural works for bathrooms, kitchens etc with mirror surrounds, glass doors and fused windows. Bowls, platters and basically anything that can be fused or slumped, he will have a go at. Sculpture, either solely glass or with metal is also an addition.

Greg’s piece, “Hammersley Gorge” was featured on the ABC Collectors program in episode 21, as part of the Ausglass National exhibition held in Hobart 2009.
